Once upon a time, in a land far far away, there was a little boy. This boy wanted to start a business. Make some pennies on the side.

He read hundreds of books on the topic. He listened to interviews. He was inspired. But he didn’t do anything. He just fantasised about building a business One Day(TM). But that One Day never came.

The boy was me, of course. What I found was, most startup advice falls into these categories:

  • Inspirational rah rah. You can do it! But we won’t tell you how.
  • Written for Fortune 500 companies. Train your salesmen to listen to your customers! Sure grandpa, when I can afford salesmen.
  • Based on the Venture Capital model: Where you don’t care about your customers at all. All you want to do is, make something crap create a lot of hype, and then sell that shit before people find out.

And I thought, there has to be a better way.

I found out that yes, there is.

And a light came on.

It was a Pro-environment low carbon light

So I built a few products, made a few pennies.

But then I look at the wider startup community, and I see the same myths I was struggling with 5-7 years ago.

This website was built to share what I learnt. Like Gandalf, I plan to stand before bad ideas and shout You Shalt Not Pass!
